Creation to Completion
August 28 - 29, 2016
Upon completing a full cycle that began at Menla twelve-years ago with the creation of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, the Grandmothers Council will come together, for one last time, to complete their circle of prayer around the planet.
From August 25th -28th, 2016 the Grandmothers, their families, friends and supporters will join together for a three-day healing retreat of prayer and gratitude at Menla, in Phoenicia, New York.
In honor of the late Grandmother Beatrice Long Visitor Holy Dance’s vision for healing and forgiveness, and in her own words, “us, Grandmothers, should reunite again and pray for each other, make prayers like when we started… and have gratitude for all who have helped us and followed us.”
To date the following Grandmothers have confirmed their presence for this retreat:
Aama Bombo (Tamang)
Agnes Pilgrim (Takelma/Siletz)
Bernadette Rebienot (Omyene)
Clara Shinobu Iura (Japanese/Brazilian)
Julieta Casimiro (Mazatec)
Maria Alice Campos Freire (Brazilian)
Mona Polacca (Hopi/Havasupai/Tewa)
Rita Long Visitor Holy Dance (Oglala Lakota)
Rita Pitka Blumenstein (Yup’ik)
Tsering Dolma Gyaltong (Tibetan)
After thirteen Grandmothers Council gatherings, which were held in the homelands of each grandmother since their first meeting at Menla in 2004, we invite you to join us for a unique opportunity to bring the Grandmothers prayer to completion.
